Whether from arthritis, injury, or another cause, many individuals turn to joint replacement surgery as a way to regain mobility and address pain. Unfortunately, however, these procedures aren’t a guaranteed solution to your joint problems. Although a joint replacement may indeed be necessary in some cases, many practitioners are now offering stem cell therapy as an alternative to invasive procedures. Here’s what you should know if you’re considering stem cell therapy vs. joint replacement surgery.

Possible Reasons to Avoid Joint Replacement Surgery

Most doctors attempt to delay or avoid joint replacement surgery unless necessary. This procedure is a considerable undertaking. Joint replacements are notorious for long recovery periods. For instance, a hip replacement may take up to six months to heal completely, but some joints can take months for a recovery – especially if complications arise. Patients also typically need physical therapy to restore movement in the joint.

Moreover, joint replacements often come with a need for repeat surgeries, as the replacements only last so long. Patients may also find themselves paying significant medical bills depending on what their insurance covers.

Stem Cell Therapy for Joint Issues

Stem cell therapy may prevent or delay the need for joint replacement. The treatment consists of targeted injections at the site of the affected joint. There, the cells trigger the body’s natural healing process, promoting pain relief and potentially improving mobility. While the treatment may not reverse the joint condition, it could offer improvements in discomfort and stiffness, among other symptoms. Plus, the treatment is minimally invasive and requires minimal recovery period.

As with many treatment options, stem cell therapy yields varying results from one patient to the next. Results may take eight weeks to emerge, and depending on degree of injury, additional treatments may be needed, or the option of surgery may be revisited. Stem cells offer an alternative option for those patients who wish to exhaust all possible options before resorting to surgery.

A few years ago, health practitioners only had to use their professional skills and customer care to keep the clients coming in through their doors. However, things have changed drastically due to advancements in technology, the most important being improved global internet connectivity. Modern patients will rarely take a ride in search of medical care. On the contrary, they will look up various health professionals online in the comfort of their homes and make a decision.

Effective Digital Marketing Strategies for Emergency Doctors & Dentists

Emergency doctors and dentists have to embrace modern marketing tools like the internet as conventional advertising methods like newspaper ads and the yellow pages won’t suffice in this highly competitive digital era. The internet provides immense opportunities for simple, affordable marketing with a massive reach potential.  Here are a few ways health professionals can market their services in the digital space.

Modern Websites

When it comes to digital marketing, well done, quick-loading websites are crucial to your practice’s continuous success. Websites provide clients with essential information such as vital communication channels in a dental emergency and clearly outline services provided at your practice.

SEO Strategies

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to the various methods such as keyword research, applied to ensure that a website ranks on the first pages of search engines. Up to date SEO ensures that your practice is among the first results they see when a patient looks up emergency doctors or dentists.

Social Media

Apart from an excellent website, social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram offer an opportunity to reach massive populations without much effort. Social media ads are reasonably priced and customizable to fit a wide range of budgets. Health practitioners can conveniently hire social media managers to ensure their successful social media campaigns.

Ads on Google Maps

Google maps are the most widely used tool by clients to find doctors and dentists during an emergency. Ensuring your Ad appears on Google maps is a sure way for easy conversions. The beauty of Google maps is that they allow a client to see direction and contact details at a glance, increasing the number of walk-in clients.

Accurate Reviews

Having an online presence is not enough to win the trust of potential clients. The review section of an entity can easily make or break the image of your practice. Doctors and dentists should regularly read the reviews, address any concerns raised, weed out inaccurate reviews for a better image, and higher conversions chances.

Email Marketing

Getting the addresses of your clients and sending them timely, informative emails is a method that has worked for many health professionals. Clients can get personal reminders to book appointments, have their invoices mailed and questions addressed.

Intranet Tools

Doctors and dentists looking to streamline their operations and foster seamless collaboration between the departments of their facilities can achieve this using intranet tools such as Sharepoint. A reliable intranet means that operational procedures are accessible to employees at the click of a button, simplifying work and saving time.

These are just a few out of a limitless number of opportunities created by the internet for a health professional to effectively market their practices and make their operations simpler and cost-effective. Using the internet for your practice is no longer a matter of choice but urgency.

Sports supplements are more and more popular. Formerly associated with bodybuilders, they are now used by everyone. Are they really necessary? If so, what should you take and when? Here is the advice on three popular sports supplements.

Protein supplements

Among the most popular supplements are Snac protein supplements. The most famous version is made from whey, but it is also found from different protein and nutrition sources such as beef, eggs, soy and peas. Protein supplements are useful for anyone who does not get enough protein in their diet or to supplement a meal or snack that is low in protein. For example, they could be eaten for lunch, a meal that often contains little protein, or to cook various protein-rich recipes such as pancakes, smoothies or desserts.

Protein supplements are often consumed during training or as a post-workout snack, especially for their convenience and speed. Thus, it is possible to keep some in your gym bag and simply mix them with water. Be aware, however, that for optimal recovery, it is best to combine them with a source of carbohydrates, such as fruit.

Gain in strength and muscle mass

Finally, recent studies show a greater gain in strength and muscle mass with the consumption of about 30 g of protein before sleep, combined with resistance training. A protein supplement before bed could therefore be of interest for those with such goals.

BCAA’S

Popularized for their positive impacts on muscle synthesis and performance improvement, BCAAs (branched chain amino acid ) are essential amino acids that are easily found in quality protein sources. Thus, recent studies suggest that there would be no additional benefits to consuming BCAAs if the diet already contains sufficient source of quality protein (meat, eggs, dairy products, soy, etc.). They are usually consumed before or during training.

The pre-workouts

Pre-workouts are composed of a mixture of sugar and caffeine in order to give an energy boost before a workout and to increase endurance and strength. Various active ingredients are added to this mixture, varying according to the brands. Be vigilant on the composition of this product so, because several companies add products whose effectiveness is not demonstrated. A similar effect can be achieved through the diet with the consumption of a latte with a fruit, for example, in the hour before a workout.

The keratectomy photo-refractive is one of the surgical techniques that the excimer laser used to treat certain refractive errors such as myopia or astigmatism.

Like other laser techniques, its goal is to correct refractive errors by modifying corneal curvature, which is the cause of most low-grade myopia.

The greater the curvature of the lens, the greater its dioptric power, that is, the more magnification it has. You can make an analogy with a magnifying glass, the greater its curvature, the greater the magnification and, therefore, the better one sees near objects and less well at distant objects, this is what happens in myopia.

When is this technique indicated?

In general, laser Cataract Surgery techniques are indicated to correct low myopia, generally less than 7 or 8 diopters, depending on the characteristics of the cornea (thickness, regularity, shape, strength, etc.) which will be determined after a series of ‘complete preoperative examinations. Kraff eye institute Laser treatment is generally used to correct myopia and astigmatism below 6 to 8 diopters. The intraocular lens implant remains the technique of choice to correct the highest myopia.

The choice of LASIK or PRK technique depends on several factors.

Firstly, the thickness and resistance of the cornea, PRK being more suitable for the thinnest or most delicate corneas.

Likewise, by more effectively preserving the resistance of the cornea, PRK will be preferred for people who in their daily life are more at risk of suffering direct impacts on the eye, such as the practice of high-risk sports or contact.

So why isn’t PRK performed on all patients who want laser surgery? The answer is simple: due to the recovery time and post-operative discomfort the following days.

Removal of the epithelium requires re-epithelialization, or growth of new skin, which will take about three days, during which time the patient may experience discomfort and vision may not be optimal, which is why it is recommended to the patient to rest during this period.

Another problem that LASIK technique can present is that it can affect the sensitivity of the surface of the cornea a little more, which results in a greater likelihood of developing dry eye problems during the postoperative period in predisposed people.
